Ten Signs of the Last Days

Introduction

Many people are afraid today.

News of radical killings and assassinations.

Christians are targeted in many regions of the world.

Even our nation which was founded on Biblical principles has thumbed its nose at God.

Removing His influence wherever possible.

We must interpret the signs of the times in the light of what Scripture says.

We are going to look at what the Bible says about the signs that point to Jesus Christ’s soon return; …

He said that He would come again to take His bride to be with Him forever.

We are living in the last days of this age.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

How should we then live?

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

What are the indications and signs alerting us to Christ’s triumphant return?

It is true that Christ return will be preceded by difficult times.

Let’s look at 10 major signs.

1. A pessimism about Christ´s return.

In the last days, there will be a spirit of doubt about Christ´s second coming.

The Apostle Peter made clear about that spirit of doubt.

2 Peter 3:3-4
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."

We must be careful not to fall into the grip of the spirit of doubt.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

2.  The “Holocaust” in Germany under Hitler (the gas chambers)

Another sign of the last days is the fact that the Jews were not totally exterminated under Hitler´s Holocaust.

Over 2,600 years ago, Ezekiel prophesied about it.

Ezekiel 37:11-13
11 Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, 'Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!' 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God : "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 Then you shall know that I am the Lord , when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves.

The dry bones represent the people of Israel.

The graves show Israel as a dead nation.

The prophecy speaks of a national resurrection for Israel.

Historical Review:

Rome destroyed the Temple and Jerusalem in the first Century, 70 DC.

The Jews were expelled from their native land and sent to extreme locations in the vast Roman Empire.

The Romans renamed the territory, “Palestine.”

Ezekiel´s prophecy is about bringing Israel from non-existence as a nation to renewed existence.

At the moment that you would think that Israel is completely exterminated from the earth, the LORD starts to open the graves that is Israel and gives the nation new life.

Hitler’s horrendous treatment of the Jews awakened the sensitivities of the UN paving the way for them to form the nation of Israel.

Israel became a nation once again for the third time in 1948.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

3.  The rebirth of Israel:

Matthew 24:32-35
32 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it* is near — at the doors34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

The fig tree represents the nation of Israel.

On May 14, 1948 Israel put forth its leaves again.

England was the leader that convinced the United Nations to declare Israel a nation with the right to exist in her original land.

The decree was passed by a majority vote in the General Assemble.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

4.  Jerusalem is a heavy burden for the world.

The diplomatic debate about Jerusalem is another last day’s sign.

Zechariah 12:2-3
2 "Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. 3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

Example:

In 1967, following the Six Day War, when Israel took control of Jerusalem and part of the Temple Mount, the neighboring nations were greatly agitated.

Many diplomatic attempts to bring peace to the area had failed.

The struggle for a Process of Peace in the Middle East is part of an international discussion that seems to have no solution.

Neighboring countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Iran and the Palestinians would love to exterminate Israel from the face of the earth.

Satan is behind the attempts to destroy the Apple of God’s Eye.

It is true that Jerusalem and Israel are a burden to the world.

Since its rebirth in 1948, no other nation had dominated international concerns more than Israel does today.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

5.  A dramatic increase in running “to and fro.”

Daniel 12:4
"But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

Most of the world is in a hurry.

Every family wants and needs their own vehicle.

In a matter of hours, by air travel we go from country to country and continent to continent.

It was not always like this.

It has only taken us 200 years to advance from traveling by horse to machines that become more and more sophisticated and faster.

Generally speaking, the people who lived in the 20th Century never traveled more than 30 miles from where they were born.

Today, we can cross the Pacific Ocean in 15 hours.

The Concorde could cross the Atlantic Ocean in 3 hours.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

6.  A dramatic increase in science.

Daniel 12:4
"But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

In the last 200 years we have seen an extraordinary increase in science.

We have seen an explosion in new discoveries such as…

Electronics

Mechanics

Engineering

Construction

Communications

Astrophysics

Sciences

Biology

Medicines

Space – the universe

Computers

Internet

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

7.  An increase in tragedies

Romans 8:22
For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

One of the last-days signs is the reaction of all of nature.

The disciples asked Jesus what would be the signs of the last days.

Jesus revealed several predominating things that would mark the last days prior to His return.

Matthew 24:4-8
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Four catastrophic conditions that will dominate the world in the last days

Wars

Pestilences

Famines

Earthquakes

A. Wars

In the last 500 years there has been a dramatic increase in wars.

With the wars, the death rate has also increased.

Ancient battles were fought with hand to hand combat.

The last 200 years we have seen the use of…

Machineguns

Grenades

Bombs

Rockets

Intercontinental Missiles

Torpedoes

Nuclear Arms

Besides that, …

Tanks

Airplanes

Bombers

Aircraft Carriers

Battleships

Submarines

B.  Famine

In the last 500 years we have seen a great increase in famines.

The victims from famines have also increased.

C.  Earthquakes

In the last 500 years, earthquakes have increased radically.
Only 7.0 or more on the Rictor Scale.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

8.  An increase in coalitions and alliances against Israel

In Ezekiel 38 and 39, he prophesies about the nations that will join forces to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

Included in the list are countries we recognize today such as, Russia, Iran, Lybia, Turkey, Armenia and parts of Asia Minor.

He speaks of an Alliance between Russia and Iran.

Today, Russia and Iran are collaborating to develop a nuclear plant in Bushehr.

They say it is to produce electricity, but Iran has so much crude oil, they don’t need nuclear power for electricity so it must have another purpose.

Most of the world thinks that they are developing a long-range nuclear missile that can reach Israel and destroy her.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

9.  The rise of a global government

“Globalization” is a Word that the major influencing nations are using, because they feel that it is the solution to all our international problems.

This concept is preconditioning the world to accept a global leader who is mentioned in the book of Revelation.

He is identified as the “Antichrist.”

Revelation 13:7
It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.

The day will come when the countries will recognize the authority of the Antichrist.  In fact, the spirit of Antichrist is already in the world.

He is more than likely in the world working his way up the power chain.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christhad come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as Godin the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Don’t be fooled.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure

10.  The radical increase in world-wide evangelism

Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Today, the Bible has been translated into more than 2,400 languages.  (SIL says, parts of the Bible into 6,900 languages in the world)

The Gospel is transmitted through multiple mediums of massive communication.

God wants the whole world to hear the Gospel of His saving power through faith in Jesus Christ.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

1 John 3:3
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Conclusion:

Romans 13:11-12
11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
